Poverty is
no laughing matter. It is a serious phenomenon that is almost impossible to eradicate.
It affects not just the country where the impoverished inhabit, but it also
affects the person’s life, their social standing, their capacity to
enjoy the fulfilment of living and it also affects the economic entirety of a
country’s growth. In layman’s terms, it’s bad for everyone and that is Bad with
a capital B.
Poverty-stricken
neighbourhoods tend to attract bad influences towards the persons residing in
it. From Thieves, kidnappers, pushers and even prostitutes these are just some
examples that poverty has rendered and now in the Philippines and according to its
President Rodrigo Duterte, drugs.
Drugs in
not just the Philippines’ Problem, Drugs has been a problem for plenty of different
countries worldwide it’s not because of drug lords, it’s because of the main
problem of each and every country, a problem that is common and can be found in
every street, subdivisions or even cities worldwide. Sadness. When you are poor,
you try to find things that could just help you get over the day, trying
anything that could lift you up and forget the challenges that life gives you
and for some what they use to forget is drugs and not everyone is safe from being
affected by it. Not even the best.
Manny
Pacquiao, a national hero to the Philippines and also an elected Senator is one
of the endorser of the Philippine President to eradicate drugs in the country. He supports the Presidents call to restore the death penalty
for drug traffickers in the mainly Catholic nation. Sad to say that he
Himself used drugs before.
Last Friday Philippine boxing legend
Manny Pacquiao insisted that he owed his fans and countrymen no apology after
admitting to having used illegal drugs.
According to Pacquiao himself he admitted
in an interview that he had used narcotics in his youth.
"I'm not hiding the fact that I
sampled those, but I was young, maybe 15 or 16 years old," he told
reporters Friday while he was training for a November 5 Las Vegas fight against
World Boxing Organisation welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
"I used marijuana, I used
shabu," he said, commenting towards the nature of his drug use.
As you know “shabu” is a drug widely
spread in the Philippines.
Pacquiao also insisted on the Interview
that He wasn’t addicted to the use of the said illegal drugs and that he just
tried to experience it.
Quote "Why should I say sorry to
them? I did nothing wrong,"
Also
stating that he instead should be an inspiration to drug users that they indeed
could change and have better lives instead of getting killed in the crackdown
against illegal drugs in the country.
He
also stated that The Filipino people should help the president instead of
putting all the blames on him.
When asked to give advice to those who
want to eradicate completely their drug habit, Physical activity like exercise could
help.
